Woven in the Himalayan valleys of Kashmir, this shawl is crafted from 100% Changthangi (Changra) cashmere, the most refined and rare cashmere fiber on earth. Each piece carries a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, verifying that it is a true Kashmiri Pashmina, produced within Kashmir using traditional methods that have been preserved for centuries.
A Geographical Indication is a globally recognized form of intellectual property protection. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), it identifies products whose quality, reputation, and distinctive characteristics come directly from their place of origin. In other words, a GI does not simply state where something was made. It legally protects the relationship between the product and the land that gives it its identity.
In 2008, the Government of India granted Kashmiri artisans exclusive intellectual property rights over Pashmina, ensuring that only authorized producers in Kashmir can use the name, provided their work meets rigorous standards.
For Kashmiri Pashmina, the GI seal is a technical certification of authenticity. It confirms that the shawl is made from ultra-fine Ladakhi Pashmina fiber (below 16 microns), spun entirely by hand and woven on traditional wooden looms using time-honored Kashmiri techniques. Every piece is tested in a government-operated laboratory in Srinagar before the official GI seal is applied.
The wool itself comes from the Changra goat, which lives in the harsh Himalayan plateau and produces fibers of exceptional softness, warmth, and lightness. Unlike most products sold as “cashmere,” GI-certified Pashmina is never blended with silk, wool, or synthetics. What you feel is the fiber in its purest form.
Each purchase supports Kashmiri artisan families and helps keep this endangered heritage alive. A portion of our profits also goes toward educating underprivileged girls in India, allowing your investment in craftsmanship to create lasting social impact.
This is not simply a shawl. It is origin-protected, artisan-made, and certified by law, an heirloom of Himalayan heritage and enduring luxury.
